Our work towards this vision is guided by two core values:
Quality contributions

We believe that by focusing on quality we can make meaningful contributions to the scientific community and advance our understanding of the world around us.
- We look for questions that are important to answer and develop novel and creative ways to address them. Our approach draws together diverse ideas from real life and academia, across different disciplines.
- We value feedback because we believe it improves research processes and outcomes. We seek out expert collaborators for guidance. We view science as a community activity that is enhanced by diversity of views and experience.
- We use high-quality methods and sampling to ensure our findings have impact. We are committed to conducting rigorous and thorough research that produces reliable results.
- We strive to execute each step of the research process properly as we go, taking the necessary time to ensure our processes are replicable. We pay attention to detail.
- We recognise that excellence is not perfection. We will make mistakes. We aim to stay open to our shortcomings so we can continue to grow.
- We value integrity and adhere to ethical standards in everything we do.

Humanity and wellbeing

We believe scientific progress should be pursued in a way that prioritises the wellbeing of people and the planet.
- We believe in the inherent value and worth of every human being. We strive to conduct research and outreach that promotes the holistic health and wellbeing of all individuals.
- We value diversity and our unique strengths.
- We recognise that mental and physical health are equally important and deeply interconnected.
- The wellbeing of our lab community is the foundation of all we do. We believe that by fostering a positive and supportive environment, members are enabled to achieve their personal and professional goals. We intentionally celebrate small wins, as well as big ones.
- We recognise that time and energy are finite resources, and that performance is fuelled by rest and recovery. Lab members are encouraged to develop boundaries that support their work-life integration. We encourage members to take guilt-free time off work when required.
- We encourage our members to contribute to the broader scientific community and to think carefully about the benefits and costs of additional commitments.
- We look out for the point of diminishing returns.
